Melinda Schneider hits the road
with her first series of tour dates for 2010 on the back of the stellar success
of her sixth studio album Melinda Does Doris – A Tribute to Doris Day. The
album debuted at #1 on the ARIA jazz/blues chart on August 6 still remaining at
the top spot one month later. Four weeks ago, Melinda knocked Herbie Hancock
from the number one position, also bursting Michael Buble’s bubble, stealing
the spot he’d held for a combined total of 145 weeks.
“I am so thrilled with the way
the album has been received,” Melinda says. “This record seems to be making
people happy, but I really have to thank the delightful Doris Day for the
stunning songs and the joy that she has given all of her fans for so many
years, including me!”
A leading light of the ‘new breed’ of Australian Country
music artists for several years now, Melinda has enjoyed great success both in
Australia and in the USA. Six albums and ten years on, she has won numerous
awards, six CMAA Golden Guitars, including ‘Top Selling Album’ for Stronger in
2008 and ‘Vocal Collaboration of The Year’ in January 2009 for her heart
warming duet Still Here with Paul Kelly, 7 Mo awards for excellence in
live performance and two Gold Records. This year has been a busy year for
Melinda, and wrapping her successes in 2010 with a series of tour dates through
to December is the perfect way to bring to a close a hectic and memorable
12-months. In February Melinda was commissioned by Andrew ‘Twiggy’ Forest to
co-write the theme song for the Generation One Campaign with Rock Legend, Les
Gock. ‘Hands Across Australia’ was recorded by a cast of Australian music
industry royalty, Christine Anu, Mark Gable, John Stevens, Casey Donovan,
Paulini and Jack Thompson all lending their voices to the anthemic song. Next
it was a call from Ch7’s ‘Dancing With The Stars’ to say Melinda had been
chosen to take part in the 10th series of the show. “I got the call in May and
immediately said yes. I have loved the show for years and couldn’t wait to
strut my stuff on the dance floor with my partner, Serghei”. During training
for the show Melinda headed into the studio with producer Chong Lim and started
work on a album project she had wanted to record for seven years, ‘Melinda Does
Doris’ A Tribute To Doris Day. “It was full on,” said Melinda “I was dance
training 6 hours a day in Sydney five days a week, then hopping on a plane on
weekends to record in Chong’s studio. In the middle of it all I made a trip to
Nashville for 10 days to take my Elite Special event tour group away to CMA
week, call me crazy! Chong was fantastic to work with, he made it so easy.” in 1951.
Six-time
Golden Guitar winner, Melinda Schneider strikes out in a new creative
direction on her sixth studio album, recording her first concept album
“Melinda Does Doris” A Tribute To Doris Day with producer Chong Lim at
the helm and her first with Universal Music Australia.
“Melinda Does Doris” is now available and is a tribute to legendary
actress, singer and activist Doris Day. Melinda pays tribute to one of
the world’s greatest female entertainers whose career spanned over five
decades and delivered some of popular music’s most enduring and
successful recording careers.
With this album Melinda enters a new era of recording, which was
inspired by a Doris Day tribute concert that Melinda performed seven
years ago at Melbourne’s Mardi Gras Midsummer Festival.
Melinda Schneider says, “Everybody loves Doris! I have been a fan of
Doris Day since I was a child and my all time favourite ‘Doris’ film is
‘Calamity Jane’. She was such a huge talent, a triple threat as they
say, she could sing, dance and act. Doris is the best of everything a
woman can be. When I grow up… I want to be just like her! People have
been telling me for years that I should make this record and I knew that
one day, when the timing was right, I would. I am so excited about this
project and to be working with the great team at Universal Music’.
Melinda Schneider is one of the leading female artists in Australia’s new country movement, however

It is little wonder Melinda has had no time to go
out on the road until now. The 2010 tour dates will see Melinda showcase
tracks from her #1 album Melinda Does Doris as well as hits from her
expansive career such as ‘The Story of My Life’, ‘I Wanna Be Married’
and ‘Be Yourself’. This will be the last chance for audiences to catch
Melinda in concert before she launches her Melinda Does Doris theatrical
I am proud to self release "Country Boy" to the world's greatest DJ's! I've included the Lyrics, Story Behind
The Song.
COUNTRY BOY-Written by: Barry P. Foley-Copyright @ 21 March
2006
GEMA WERKNUMBER: 10945321 ANM 22 July 2009
I was born in the
country during the great Korean War
Nearest blacktop road was a mile o
rmore
Daddy worked two jobs, just to feed all of us kids
Looking back
over 50 years, I’m proud that he did
Mama when to church on Sunday
and Wednesday night
She never spared the rod, to teach us wrong from
right
Sunday morning breakfast was chicken, biscuits and gravy
And
those great gospel programs on a blackand white TV
I’m proud to be a
country boy, proud of Southern Roots,
From the top of my balding head to
the tip of my cowboy boots
I travel the world over telling folkswhere I
come from
Singing “Here’s a little music from my Home Sweet
Home”
I’d search for old pop bottles, inditches along the
road
I get two cents apiece from the country store for every
load
I’d wash cars and pump gas; clean your windshield just right
Make
me a little money, for the dance on Saturday night
I’m proud to be a
country boy, born inthe South,
When I talk about country, I know what I’m
talking about
You might laugh at my accent and the way I say
Y’all
When you say, Country Boy, I’ll stand up proud and
tall
TAG
When you say, Country Boy, I’ll stand up proud and
tall

This song was recorded
with the same great studio and musician's in Garland Texas that the wonderfully
talented Paul and Helen Mateki { http://www.paulmateki.com/ } have used for many
years. There's also another hot new name coming out of Texas on Paul's
Quicktrain Label "Leon Blue" (http://www.leonblue.com/) that uses the same
studio. Real soulful singer that you may have already heard his fine release of
Whiskey and Gin! If you haven't heard it, drop him a line at leon@leonblue.com
and sure Leon will hook you up!
I want to say a great big Texas sized
"Thank You" for all of the support and spins of my previous five singles as my
duet with Marty Wolfe in April (That Girl Who Sang Johnny Cash) has made a good
run and this week its #2 in Sweden, # 3 in Germany and # 8 in Norway. If for
some reason you don't have a copy, please let me know.
Please forgive
for not getting to the boards on a regular basis as adapting to the life of
being a full time musician has occupied much more of my time that I ever
imagined. Guess that's a good thing!! I have a series of 2 day shows that
have turned into my "song-writing appointments" with myself. So far 14 shows
have produced 14 songs which one will be on the new CD!!
Needless to
say.....thanks in advance for EACH and EVERY spin. I take nothing for
granted. Thanks for much for your continued support of my music and all you do
for all of us INDIE artists to play our music on your show. Without YOU, we
would have NO VOICE on radio period!!
Have Guitar....Will Travel..we'd
love to hear from ya! BarryP
THE STORY BEHIND THE
SONG
Country Boy: (March2006). Another true story of my childhood! Grew
up in the simple life of a country boy and I’m damn proud of it. I tell the joke
that we were so wealthy, we had two TV’s...they were on top of each other, one
for sound and the other for the picture….I’m sure there’s some families out
there that can relate to that. But looking back, it was rich childhood raised
on solid principals of honesty and hard work. I can clearly remember watching
those great Sunday morning Gospel music programs on TV and waking up to the
smell of Mama’s Fried Chicken and Sopping (Milk or White) Gravy…YES, that was
Sunday morning breakfast!!
THINGS TO KNOW: For the benefit of some that
didn’t grow up in the country, when you bought soft drinks you had to pay a
2-cent deposit on each bottle. Lots of people would just throw the bottle out
the window of the car in the ditches after they wereempty. We’d search the
ditches along theroad between the house and country store looking for “pop
bottles” and turn them in for that 2 cent return of deposit…which was a very
common way to make a little money!

The living Legend 'Chad Morgan' has always been
plan old Chad. He cared little for the Tamworth Awards - I'm sure he must have
thought that there were too much crawling going on. He has been performing
for the past 57 years and his acheivements have never been recognised because of
the polictics in the Australian Country Music Industry.
This year
Country Music Awards Night (2010) celebrates 38 years.
Chad Morgan, best known as the Sheik of Scrubby Creek - had received his first ever Golden
Guitar 'Lifetime Acheivement Award' and was welcomed with astanding ovation -
the fans stood and cheered in honour of this remarkable entertainer. John
Williamson present the Lengend with his Award. Slim Dusty - the King of
Australian Country Music - would have been proud to see his old mate presented
with his very first Golden Guitar.
Congratulations Chad.

Restless Wind - second album release for Lana Ross
Two singles distributed to radio NfS in Australia,
Hillcrest internationally.
An extraordinary year followed for Lana Ross when
she released her debut album ‘Stories To Tell’ in Tamworth in January 2008.
Her second album ‘Restless Wind’ released last month promises a similar
scenario for the Australian singer songwriter, based in Mackay
Queensland.
Two singles were immediately released to radio. ‘Little
Western Gully’ on NfS in Australia, and ‘The Walls’ to the international market
through Canadian distributor Hillcrest Marketing Service.
A product of
renown producer Lindsay Butler, who also produced Lana’s first album, LBS
management says ‘Lana obviously felt the pressure to say the least!, but if this
is the end result of being under pressure, then it’s a great outcome. The
Industry is very excited at what will come in future albums from this talented
singer songwriter.’
Lana says ‘Lindsay and I felt the pressure to deliver
a great second album after the success of the first album. It was Lindsay's
cool head and meticulous production that has made this a fantastic
album.’
Seven of the songs are written by Lana herself. Other tracks
include a Shirley Thoms classic and selected songs from songwriters Ben Jacobs
and Manfred Vigars who have contributed a track each, both co written with Shaza
Leigh. The Lana Ross | Shaza Leigh track “The Walls’ is the first selection for
the international market.
‘I’m excited about the co-write with Shaz ’The
Walls’ - the results of this song, is magical! It was a first choice when we
discussed releasing a track overseas.’
‘The Walls’ is a very special
song to write having recently lost a grandparent leaving behind his widow of 50
+ years and to see her waiting as if behind, is a very heartfelt emotion.’
‘Hillcrest feedback already indicates the song is receiving strong
airplay among the favourites of most of the DJs on the media boards. But it’s
still a bit early to tell.’ Lana added.
Of the remaining songs, she says
‘Cat Yella’ is a tongue in cheek song about how we girls sometimes will do
anything to get attention from our men. ‘Chorus of the Bushland’ was written
while I was working 100 miles west of Nebo basically in the middle of nowhere,
just a beautiful songwriting experience. ‘Little Western Gully was written on a
road trip, observing the changes in the landscape from one area to another ...a
roll of the dice!’
‘The Murray River Song’ written on the Banks of the
Murray where I went a lot when I was a child and returned there recently after
20 plus years and noticed how fragile she had become. ‘Calling you Home’ was
written as a tribute to the Australian bushland - the closest thing to heaven to
me. And, the title track ‘Restless Wind’ – simply a reflection on my life so
far.’
‘I love what I’m doing. I have no regrets.’ Lana concludes. ‘The
first album taught me not to be afraid! To be myself! I have learnt many
industry lessons over the past two years and I’m sure I will learn a few
more....over the coming years’.
NfS Lana Ross Little Western Gully from
the Restless Wind album.
LANA ROSS is an emerging singer-songwriter who
is going from strength to strength. The release of her second album Restless
Wind follows the success of her debut Stories To Tell that earned her the 2009
TSA Gospel Song Of The Year and Gold Medallion for best Queensland New Talent of
the Year in 2009, and also provided the strong radio single Heavens
Park.
Her last single The Murray River Song was well received since its
release in September 2009, and with a Top 3 nomination for Queensland Female
Vocal in the Gold Medallion Awards for 2010 certainly created a lot of
excitement in the Ross camp.
The new single to be released from the album
is Little Western Gully, a gentle reflection on nature rolling the dice in the
Australian bush.

If you
loved Doug McIntyre’s first album, you’ll be over the moon about Australian Son. The young artist has quickly become known and as a great
chronicler of life in the bush with clever lyrics and catchy tunes. His vocals
are strong and warm. Album number two continues Doug’s great love for the Great
Southern Land. Characters he knows, bush life, childhood memories, and stories
from our past, all come to life. Here is a song writer who paints the Australian
character from the heart. Here is a song writer with something intelligent and
insightful to say about the Australian story. Modern and traditional styles
combine to form what can only be described as Doug’s own brand of Australian
Country. Australian Son is fresh and up-beat. We see an artist who writes about
Australia for Australian’s- and he sings like one too! Every track makes you
feel proud to be living under southern skies.
Doug
attributes his original inspiration to childhood. “When I was a boy growing up
in western New South Wales, I’d often go with Dad on his mail run. He knew that
country so well and could answer all the questions thrown at him by a curious
young boy” says Doug. “Dad and my uncles loved Slim Dusty. Henry, Banjo and John
O’Brien were always on the bookshelf. It sparked within me a fascination for the
bush, its people, and their stories. It’s where my love for this great country
of ours all started really” says Doug.
Doug teamed
up with the renowned Steve Newton at his ENREC Studio in the Country
Music Capital to record the album. Newton’s credits include producing John
Williamson. He is also the son of Slim Newton of ‘Red Back on the Toilet
Seat’ fame. “I had a ball working with Steve and the fantastic muso’s he
mustered” says Doug. A-grade pickers include Mark Moulynox, Pixie Jenkins,
Lawrie Minson, Alwyn Aurich, James Gillard, Steve Newton, Scott Hills, and Garry
Steel.
Adelaide is about a
bus trip and a childhood crush. Donald Mackay is a tribute to a true
Australian hero who paid the ultimate price for making a stand against drugs in
the 1970’s. Carrathool Races is a wonderful insight into the fun and
excitement of the bush race meeting. Set in the little Riverina town of
Carrathool, where every year the population explodes from just 99 to thousands. Going Home Some Day is a tribute to the Diggers who slaved on the Burma
Railway and were incarcerated in Changi Prison during the Second World War. The
song is based on the life of Doug’s uncle who only just survived, then made it
home to raise a family, work a farm and help build the nation. Jessica is
the epic tale of young Narrandera woman Jessica Bergman, whose story was made
well-known by author Bryce Courtenay in his novel ‘Jessica’. Dragonfly is a snapshot of the medical rescue choppers flying on into the
country towns and helping out in time of need. Proud to be a Truckie is
about Doug’s Griffith truckie mate.
The title
track Australian Son, is a true anthem resounding with over-whelming
pride in the Australian story and who we are as a people. Amidst the pride, is a
clear message that we’re shaped by our past, and that we can’t forget the road
we’ve taken if we want to move confidently to where we’re going. Taste of
Paradise looks at how the real measure of a man lies in his treatment of the
most vulnerable, and how true happiness comes through embracing the dejected. Everyone Needs Someone is about a young bloke who goes bush to reclaim
lost love. Yellow Moon is pure romance. Country Road captures the
thrill of driving down a country road and life on the road as a performer. “But
the song is for everyone” says Doug. “We’ve all felt like a modern-day
Swaggie, like the road is our second home- driving along with the window down,
the friends we meet along the way, and missing home. Travelling the big
distances is part of Australian life. On the road I’ve sometimes had a strong
sense that it’s my songs that are taking me to the places I go. Creating songs
is really about performing them to the people I write them
for”.
Australian
Son appeals to
true Country fans and lovers of all music, alike. What both share, is a bond
with an artist who sings about their country from the
heart!

successful Why Me and End of the Ride, has moved up three places to 45 on XYZ

Directed by Duncan Toombs, the clip is a complete contrast to the playful Why

months ago, stood in the grand finalist line up of the very respected Starmaker
Quest. The EP was produced by Rod McCormack, recorded, mixed and mastered by
Jeff McCormack @ The Music Cellar.

When
Canberra artist Leanne Melmoth launched her debut album Perfect Day, Deborah
Minter’s album review for Capital News simply read ‘Leanne Melmoth, where have
you been?!? ‘
What followed was two successful singles and in 2010 a
possible third, if news last week charting in CMC Top 50 means anything, and
soon to radio, available on NfS 139 from March 22.
With a run of low key
successes, radio airplay and two very video friendly clips, the title track
Perfect Day and Underneath the Radar, Melmoth established herself in the
industry playing support at ACT gigs to major acts, and creating a market forher
new album, described as ‘an irrepressible grin flashing in the rear view mirror
from a woman with a passion for music.’
‘Perfect Day’s smooth fusion of
country and adult-contemporary lyrics layered with hope and humour and up-beat
melodies, conjure the feeling of being homeward bound with one hand at the wheel
and the other weaving through the wind.’
A perfect analogy for the latest
offerings, another articulate Ross Wood production, humorously combining the
catchy, upbeat tune with a strong message for men to be good to the women in
their world.
It’s a story of anormal day in a couple’s life; a woman
waiting on her man to go on a picnic, but of course.......he's at the racing
track! Instead of sitting at home sulking she decides to join his world and
takes the picnic to the track. After watching lap after lap, she finally gets
involved and in a fun twist, shows him how it's done!!
Filmed at the
Marulen Driver Training Centre at Marulen, Leanne was excited and apprehensive
at the same time about the location ‘I love my cars so this film clip was a
blast to make! A dream come true! The race car in the clip was an original
Bathurst racing car and the guys just loved bringing it out for the clip.’
‘Apparently it doesn't get driven very often any more! The neighbours
around the driver training centre complain about the noise of the car so we were
really limited with time and how long we could have it driving for! It was an
absolutely freezing day hence there’s a shot of me in a jacket and warm
coffee!!!!’
‘I wrote this song in about 1 hour flat. It was fun to write
and flowed easily’ Leanne smiles ‘I love performing this song live, because all
the girls sing along and the reaction from the guys is priceless!’
‘Its
subtle tongue-in-cheekquestions what every girl needs to consider before getting
serious about a guy. Will he rub your feet? Will he take you shopping? Will he
love you without your makeup? Will he look after the kids when you've ‘hada
day’? Will he fight for you?’
‘All of your world’ is our most requested
song at live shows, I think that says something about how a lot of girls
feel’‘Sometimes we need to be all of someone’s world.’

The single was a
finalist earlier this year for APRA Song Of The Year, at the Golden Guitar

Felicity’s own musical career began with her busking at the age of 11 on
the main street of her hometown Tamworth, and so it was the obvious location to
go back to her roots to film the clip, during the annual Tamworth Country Music
Festival. Filmed by new Central Coast based director Erica Davis, the video
features a number of Felicity’s musical friends including Adam Harvey, Beccy
Cole, Gina Jeffreys, The McClymonts and Victoria Baillie.
You will also
notice a few other well-known faces such as Channel Seven’s Better Homes And
Gardens presenter Jason Hodges who is a good friend of Felicity’s and travels to
the festival each year, or maybe pick out a friend amongst the fans and buskers
who were all happy to be apart of the clip.
Having returned from a
European tour, Felicity is performing alongside guitarist Glen Hannah for
upcoming shows in Victoria late May, with a guest appearance by Sal Kimber at
Spensers Live. Then Felicity will head back to Sydney for shows at Rooty Hill
RSL and a guest spot at the Macarthur Country Music Awards.
If you can’t
