President of Phoenix Fm
(Central Victorian Community
Broadcasters Inc.. Loves community access radio with a passion. "True community
radio," Geoff says, "is all about service to as many community (non-profit)
groups and individuals with a need and a drive to communicate their message, be
it musical specialty or particular interest) to as wide a range of people as
possible. "It does not and never should try to mimic commercial radio but,
rather, seeks to fill a great and till now unmet need in our community for
individuals and groups to reach out through the medium of radio in a form which
is both interesting and entertaining."
"We are not," Geoff adds, "biased or slanted
towards one musical genre or another; all are equal and welcome given the
necessary training in studio protocol and broadcast guidelines sufficient to
present a programme clearly and enjoyably."
Geoff hosts a talk and music programme each
Wednesday morning from nine a.m. till midday, canvassing a limitless range and
variety of interesting people, subjects and events, interspersed with,
predominantly but not exclusively, bluegrass music which just happens to be a
driving musical passion for Geoff. Talk and music form a nice balance with one
another. With outstanding panel operator and co-host Sam Harrison, Wednesday
Talk is a widely listened to show each week both locally and internationally via
our internet stream; feedback emails always welcome.

The show
covers local football, basketball, cricket, cycling and many other sports each

of his program, however, Jackson also strives to interview people who started
their sporting careers in Bendigo and have gone onto to become elite sports
people in their own right.
Some of
these people have included Australian National Netball captain Sharelle
McMahon; 2008 Hawthorn premiership player Brent Guerra; former 184 game AFL
player Adrian Hickmott; Richmond’s Dustin Martin; former Bulldog and Tiger
Nathan Brown; and former 297 game Richmond player Wayne Campbell.
Olympians
Glenn Ashby, Faith Leech, Chantelle Newbery and Kristi Harrower, have also

publicity. He has already covered waterpolo, rowing, kayaking, softball, rugby,
swimming, athletics and much more.

I'm
Jenny Rainsford and I have been with Phoenix FM radio since its inception.
I present 'Keeping in Tune' on a Sunday between 6pm - 8pm.
I
mainly play contemporary and some traditional Christian music, share some
interesting reflections that I come across, and pass on news of happenings in
the local churches, with occasional interviews.
'A
Smorgasbord of Easy Listening' on a Friday morning 10am – 11.30, is another
programme that I enjoy presenting. Being a 'smorgasbord' means that I can
select from a wide range of music, from classical to rock. It's my hope (one
day) to introduce a Gardening, and a Cookery segment.
Music
can have a great therapeutic effect on listeners and it's good to be able to
share with others from my collection gathered over the years. I have been involved with two other radio
stations in past years.
I
count it a privilege to be on the Committee of Management and the Programme
Committee and to be a part of our great community station, reaching out not
just to our local community but around the world.
I
enjoy my family and their activities, and have various interests including
involvement with the La Trobe Uni Chaplaincy Drop-in Centre; school Chaplaincy
and church and other community groups.
Gardening, music, singing, playing instruments, reading, and visiting
others are also ways I enjoy using my time.

I came to
Australia from Dundee, Scotland in 1960, so I am really “Dinky- Dy”?
Spent
some years in Melbourne, Swan Hill and arrived inBendigo in 1975, for what was
supposed to be a short time?
Taught
Practical classes at White Hills Tech. [Weroona College] for seventeen
years, took an early retirement, had a great holiday overseas, mostly in
Scotland,with my wife Jo.
I joined
3CCC in October 1982, enjoyed every minute of it. There are always “Magic”
moments on radio, and one such moment was when I played a special tune for my
wife’s birthday,I started off by saying “To my number one Wife “—very soon
after the manager rushes into the studio and asked what I had said on Air, he
said there was a very irate listener on the phone. I picked up the phone and
discovered it was a regular listener, very upset about my number one wife, she
thought I was a Christian person, and should only have one wife.
It took a
bit of explaining, but I convinced her it was just a figure of speech- we
remained friends.
I have had
many highlights over the years, but two that were certainly up there with
the best were interviews, the first was with a very famous Scottish singer
Kenneth McKellar, who turned out to be a charming personality, and very
appreciative of his time on the radio. The second interview was with John
Woods, actor, well known from“Blue Heelers” , and also from his many stage
roles, but I just could not get him to wear the kilt?
I am a
member of Phoenix Fm and have a Scottish program"Scotts Corner"
Mondays between 2.30 and 4.30pm
and"
,Monday.with"MishMash",9 until 10;30 A.M.,
